How Will It Operate In My School

Each school:

  • registers on the programme
  • selects a champion/co-ordinator
  • produces an annual action plan tailored to the needs and requirements of their school

The co-ordinator works with a small group of pupils (known as Sheriffs in primary schools) to assist them in the implementation of a variety of sustainable travel and road safety initiatives contained in their action plan. These initiatives work towards increasing physical activity, providing training opportunities, creating a safer, cleaner environment and reducing the dependency on car use.

The programme is designed to engage with parents, governors and the wider community through campaigns, training and involvement within the initiatives outlined in the action plan.

The A*Stars Model

The Head Teacher, SMT, staff and Governors should aim to adopt and endorse the programme across the school, embedding A*STARS within the curriculum and relevant policies and procedures.
