The annual Active Sustainable Travel and Road Safety (A*STARS) quiz saw students from across the borough come together for a friendly inter-school competition, showcasing their knowledge and skills learned throughout the year. Pupils from years 4 and 5 competed, each representing their schools with the hope of winning the coveted A*STARS inter-schools’ trophy. This year's event was held at Walsall Football Club, adding an exciting twist to the day. In addition to the quiz, the children participated in football-related activities, making the day even more fun-filled!
The A*STARS programme, adopted by over 80% of schools, includes a variety of initiatives focused on walking, cycling, scooting, and road safety. It provides training, expertise, and support to promote safer and healthier lifestyle choices among students. Designated staff and students, known as A*STARS Sheriffs, work with the Council’s Road Safety Team to enhance health, wellbeing, and road safety awareness.
The quiz serves as a culmination of the programme, reinforcing key road safety skills learned over the academic year. After three competitive rounds, Pelsall Village Primary emerged victorious, followed by Christ Church CE Primary in second place and Delves Junior in third.
Well done to everyone who participated on the day!
