Each year the quiz brings together students from across the borough to go head-to-head in a friendly inter-school competition. In the run up to the event, pupils took part in quizzes in their school to highlight how much they have learnt throughout the year. Four pupils, from years 4 and 5, were chosen to represent their school at the annual quiz, with the hope of winning the coveted A*STARS inter-schools trophy.
Currently over 80% of schools are on the A*STARS programme which is a series of walking, cycling, scooting and road safety initiatives, along with training, expertise and support given to schools to help them to develop and promote safer, healthier lifestyle choices for all.
Each school has designated members of staff and children, known as A*STARS Sheriffs, who work alongside the Council’s Road Safety Team promoting health, wellbeing and road safety.
The annual A*STARS quiz is a key part of the programme to consolidate learning and understanding of key life skills which the children have worked on over the last academic year. Teachers and some parents of the pupils attended the quiz.
After 3 rounds of questions, St Michael's Church of England Primary School emerged as victors, with Kings Hill Primary in 2nd place and Castlefort JMI in 3rd place. The Deputy Mayor of Walsall, Cllr Towe was on hand to award the trophy to the winning team and even participated in the quiz!
Well done to everyone who participated on the day, it was a fun filled afternoon testing key road safety skills learnt throughout the past year.
