What is Cycle Maintenance?

What is it?

Cycle maintenance is an important aspect in keeping your child’s bike in top working order, and to maximise its lifespan.

This session is a hands-on practical, covering basic steps required to keep your child’s bike working as new. Children bring in their own bikes and learn how to check them over as part of the session.

Depending on the time of the session, we encourage parents to get involved in the activity, especially if younger children are included. This helps to cascade the training to the wider school community.

What are the benefits?

  • Identify mechanical problems with children’s bikes
  • Remove barriers to cycling by making bikes roadworthy
  • Make children more aware of the importance of maintaining their bike to improve safety
  • Equip children and parents with necessary skills to check over bikes and their own
  • Signpost pupils and families to local bike shops and cycling clubs
