Parking Restrictions outside Schools
The Council can introduce a range of restrictions to keep the roads outside a school free from parked cars. The most common is 'School Keep Clear' markings with associated zig-zag lines that prohibit any vehicle from stopping during the hours of operation. Alternatively single or double yellow lines can be introduced; single yellow lines prohibit parking at certain times whereas double yellow lines are in operation at all times.
All of the above are introduced through a legal order and any parked vehicle can be subject to a fixed Penalty Charge Notice.
At the start of each academic year a safer parking campaign is undertaken and the Council’s Parking Enforcement Officers target offences outside all A*STARS Schools- see useful links for an example of a leaflet used in a campaign.
